Austrian Climate Protection Projects Examples

Climate Austria compiles a special portfolio of Austrian climate protection projects, giving priority to projects involving renewable sources of energy, energy efficiency and changeovers from non-renewable to renewable energy sources. Approximately 60% of the project portfolio will consist of renewable energy projects (in particular solar panels, photovoltaic power and biomass) and approximately 40% will consist of energy efficiency projects, such as thermal insulation for buildings and heat recovery projects. In order to reduce 1 tonne of CO2 it is necessary to install approximately 6 m2 of solar panels, or to replace 370 l of fuel oil or 3,100 kWh of electricity.

The criteria applied both in evaluating and in monitoring these climate protection projects correspond to the standards applied by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management for its national environmental support programme.

In contrast to the international project portfolio, no "tradable" emission reduction units are generated. The CO2 effect achieved by each project is calculated over the operational life time of the project. Through your contribution, you ensure that more climate protection projects can be implemented in Austria.
